Cardiovascular disease is a group of problems that occur when the heart and blood vessels aren’t working the way they should. The most common acquired heart diseases in children are rheumatic heart disease and Kawasaki disease.

How to take care of your heart health
  1. Eat a heart healthy diet.
  2. If overweight, lose weight.
  3. Increase regular physical activity to at least 2.5 hours per week.
  4. Don’t use tobacco.
  5. Avoid use of alcohol.
  6. Have your blood pressure and blood sugar checked regularly.
