An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is a trained professional who responds to emergency medical situations, such as car accidents, fires or other types of emergencies. An EMT can volunteer; work for an ambulance service; or work for a fire department. EMTs are responsible for patient care from initial assessment through turnover at the hospital, or until a higher trained emergency medical provider arrives and takes over patient care.
