About Course

Disasters, by definition overwhelm local resources. Preparing to function during a disaster
requires advanced planning and teamwork. This 5-day course will provide your personnel with
the awareness and tools necessary to prepare their facilities and colleagues to respond in a
disaster.
This course will introduce participants to the TeamSTEPPS® concepts of effective
communication, teamwork & leadership principles. Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance
Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS) is an evidence-based set of teamwork tools,
aimed at optimizing patient outcomes by improving communication and teamwork skills among
health care professionals. Participants will review incident command structures & all the
elements of disaster response. Participants will create model disaster plans for use in future
exercises. The final day will be a practical training and consists of mock disaster exercises
where we will apply their new knowledge. Participants attending the course will receive:
• A certificate of completion by the certifying body
• Continuing Medical Education (CME) Hours (to be determined)
• 24 hours of Category 1 AMA CME provided through EB Medicine (optional)
• Lecture series
• Pre-work materials
• Ongoing access to our subject matter experts
• Opportunities to increase their mastery of the topic area
